New Life, New Walks

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

I have been busy with business so not many posts.  Will try to do better.  We have turned a corner with the economy as more people are returning to buying and especially homes.  I have written 3 contracts over the last week and am showing more homes this weekend.

But that is not the most important stuff of life.  Our walk or life is a gift to be explored and enjoyed.  Even in the darkest of times and circumstances there is a way which we can find that which fulfills us.   God  is revealing himself as we interact with Him.

I found an interesting short film that I really liked called "Validation'.

It is my belief we were designed to be validators!

A New Day Dawning. Live Man Walking!

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

We are all tired of bad news and how it affects each of us.  It seems we have lived with it for too long.  So I propose a moratorium on any more for rest of the month.  So many people I met are wore out and I think a lot of it is the press and media.  Hey folks they make money by keeping you stirred up.  Good news does not sell.

So go out and take a walk the next time you are tempted to read a bad news story or watch the nightly news.  See what a difference it makes in your mood and disposition.

My wife read a devotional this morning and the woman said one time when they had a new tv and when we used antennas they plugged it in to see a grey cloud.  Her husband put a pair of rabbit ears on it and instantly it was a clear picture.  She said that's just like prayer.   Spend some time talking to God and see if things don't clear up.  I think you can hear Him even better when you walk.  There is a devotional picture painted each day if we will take time to watch and study it.

As to the news it is a new slant these days, the worst is over, maybe.   Don't buy into it or will drive you nuts.  Your life is your life.  Don't allow others  or circumstances to frame it for you.

Just take a walk,

Ron

Walking on North High or Meeting New Friends

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

The walk in the burg was humid but still cool this morning.  The ducks and geese are out in full force on the creek and river with their babies.  Yesterday we saw a coral Salamander on Water Street.   Each day there is something new and wonderful.  Maybe we shouldn't allow ourselves to be bogged down with the disappointing and disagreeable.  I am trying (and have been told that on repeated occasions, ha ha).

Today was quite the treat because we have passed this small but cute Victorian on High Street for years.  Down around the corner is a larger Victorian which was owned by Madge Ring and her granddaughter Julie introduced my wife and I many moons ago.

The owners were here from Charlottesville trimming this huge hydrangea in the side yard and so we stopped and introduced ourselves.  The owners are octogenarians and this was the wife's home place.  They have spent the last 3 years redoing it and it is wonderful.  The entrance hall has a multi toned inlaid wood floor with intricate wood paneling going up the steps.  The inside has 4 fireplaces and a local carpenter Ned Irvin has done all the work.  Ned you have done a great job.

The hardwood and trim and layout are great throughout the house but the best is the attic.  From the outside there is a parapet which I thought would have been unfinished but the original owner was a teacher and finished the eaves with tongue and groove wood.  He used it as a class room.  While the house is not huge it is more the ideal cottage feeling.

The owners are equally inviting.  He was a professor in Charlottesville and she knew Madge Ring and went to school with Julia Ring.  She knew all of Julia's daughters Patty, Mary and Julianne.   It was quite enjoyable to meet new friends.

Walking with my beloved

10-14 Get up, my dear friend,
fair and beautiful lover—come to me!
Look around you: Winter is over;
the winter rains are over, gone!
Spring flowers are in blossom all over.
The whole world's a choir—and singing!
Spring warblers are filling the forest
with sweet arpeggios.
Lilacs are exuberantly purple and perfumed,
and cherry trees fragrant with blossoms.
Oh, get up, dear friend,
my fair and beautiful lover—come to me!
Come, my shy and modest dove—
leave your seclusion, come out in the open.
Let me see your face,
let me hear your voice.
For your voice is soothing
and your face is ravishing.

Song of Songs 2:10-14

There are times when as a man I stop and look around at what reality is.  In those times my wife is a gift and blessing beyond compare.  A pearl of great price.   Terri helps to make sense out of life.

Once you experience love it is hard to forget it.  Even when pressures or circumstances push us about.  Love still comes again and again to remind us why we are living.

I think too that God gives us relationships to experience love.  If we open our hearts to love then it takes hold and begins to burn brighter and brighter.

A couple months ago a young couple was looking at property with me and the young man asked about marriage.   Honestly I said, it is better than I ever could have imagined.   Not to say there may be difficult times but love has a way of overpowering those difficulties.

I think too of the story of the prodigal son.  The love of the father never changed with either son.  The two son's perceptions of their father were wrong, but he chose to love them, no matter what.   I am not sure the father had any other choice.  That is a love to aspire to.

So stop on your walk through this life.  Look for the love in your life.

Keep walkin,

Ron

Walking In Life!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Many things have been going on lately.  Firstly, my eye is still dealing with the Texas shaped fog.  New tests and a cardiac specialist, not sure where that will lead.  Not very worried either.  I am not in control of my last breath so worrying over it just doesn't make sense.  While having a stroke in your eye sounds terrible, it is surprisingly easy to live with.

I have also switched companies.  RealEstate.Com Realtors is the new company.  They are revolutionary in their marketing and that is what attracted me.  RealEstate.Com owns websites like Expedia.com and Lendingtree.com, which generate leads which they resell.  Even my old company was buying leads from them.  I believe they will be the wave of the future in real estate.

Then there has been the weather.  Rain is good, we even walk in it, if it isn't too heavy.   This will be one of the wettest summers we have had in years.

In writing all this, my thoughts go back to what is most important to me.  Relationships!  To God, and the people around me.  In this I have peace.  While under the influence of something during yesterdays procedure, my wife said I went on about how much I love her.  I do love her, very much, and am glad my weird sense of humor didn't kick in.  The filter may have been down but hopefully loving her was at the top of topics to talk about.  Ha ha.

Life is all around us.  So lets get out and walk in it.

Keep walkin,

Ron
