Walking Through Death.

Terri and I walked again at 5am and it was so nice and cool.  Sleepy little Edinburg was just beginning to stir.  The campground down on the creek had a tent half down but I suppose the people were still sleeping.  The ducks and geese congregate at night up stream by the mill,  so they won't be down by the campground till day breaks through.   The walk was nice and always I think about stuff.

Someone asked me last night what I really liked to do.  I can't say what my first choice was but meeting people was the second.  Introverts are not supposed to be that way so list me as a recovering introvert.

In meeting people there is joy and sadness.  In a trio of short stories I have begun, experiencing death is the subject.   Two of the stories Terri and I were there and the last one we knew the family.  All three spoke to a part of me, which I had ignored.  Death is not a warm and fuzzy, but it seems a time when we can give a gift to each other.  I might even describe death as beautiful.

Love, life and death can intersect is such a way, that we release each other with peace.   I believe people always remain a part of us, even when we don't see it.  It seems we are designed that way.

Hopefully I won't chase anyone off with these stories but I will post them one by one.

Walking Once More With Feeling!

I am trying to do better at blogging.  Again!  So here goes.

This morning was a great walk.  The clouds were keeping the sunrise from heating everything up too quickly.  It was humid and misty by Stoney Creek but wonderful too.  The rain from yesterday has added a zip to the flora and fauna.   Even the female ducks were gathered together in Stoney Creek having their own hen party.  I guess the guys ticked them off!  lol

Anyway I also watched an interesting movie on netflix called "Up49".  It is a documentary about english school children in the 60's who they have been filming every 7 years till they are now 49.   The scary part is the kids pretty much said what they were going to do and did it.

I thought I was the only idiot savant of life but it looks like there is more where I came from.   Maybe we are designed this way, OMG!  There must be a god because we would be extinct by now.

It would be nice to be one of those people who embrace life with every fiber of their being rather than it feeling like a bucket of water (sometimes COLD) being thrown at you daily.  Not that I am complaining because my life is wonderful but being more courageous would be nice for a change.

Alas I digress.  The walk was great.  I met Mark and Noel along the way.  We walked several hills and that is my attempt at exercise and being more courageous.

Keep walkin and try a dollop of courage today!  lol

Walking Blog Buddies

I had several requests to pick up the pace on writing again so I will try harder.   Noel is always telling me to pick up the pace when we walk.  Women walk faster than men is my theory.  As I write that, a memory from long ago walking with my Aunt Louise,  from her restaurant to her uniform shop and barely being able to keep up with her comes flying back.   Did I mention my mother won a walking contest when she was a teenager?

One email I received mentioned that my walking seemed like fun and not work.   Well it may have seemed like a labor when I started years ago but now I do look forward to walking.   Your body has chemical reactions when you walk that help to destress, but more importantly your perspective is changed by the changing world around you.  Last spring when the country seemed depressed as a whole, life was blooming each morning as I walked.  Forsythia and crocus were in bloom, but also the ducks and geese had their young swimming in trim lines behind them.   New life, new hope seemed to be the theme.  Even now I am looking forward to that transformation this spring.

Our personal worlds are such a small part of the grand procession happening all around us.  Go take a walk and enjoy that procession.  Be a part of it.

Walking Through Life With Kids

I don't really care much for emails that if you don't send it out immediately something bad will happen to you.  It almost seems like your passing along a curse disguised in a gift wrapped box.  However I recieved this from my cousin and thought I would share it.

What Love means to a 4-8 year old . .

Slow down for three minutes to read this. It is
so worth it.

Touching words from the mouth of babes.

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds,

'What does love mean?'

The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined

See what you think:

'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too.. That's love.'

Rebecca- age 8

'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different.
You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.'

Billy - age 4

'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.'

Karl - age 5

'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.'

Chrissy - age 6

'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.'

Terri - age 4

'Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.'

Danny - age 7

'Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that.
They look gross when they kiss'

Emily - age 8

'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents
and listen.'

Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)

'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,'

Nikka - age 6
(we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)

'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.'

Noelle - age 7

'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.'

Tommy - age 6

'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.

He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.'

Cindy - age 8

'My mommy loves me more than anybody
You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.'

Clare - age 6

'Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.'

Elaine-age 5

'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.'

Chris - age 7

'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.'

Mary Ann - age 4

'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.'

Lauren - age 4

'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.'
(what an image)

Karen - age 7

'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross.'

Mark - age 6

'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.'

Jessica - age 8

And the final one

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said,

'Nothing, I just helped him cry'

Walk? Whose Walking?

Me that's who.  If anyone is still out there it has gotten busy and people are looking at houses again.   One couple is moving from California, people are retiring out of DC and first time home buyers are out in droves.

But I have missed my club here.  So am wanting to start posting again.

My little tribe has been walking and has seen modest growth with one more body.   The mornings are getting colder but it certainly helps to get you going for the day.

I also read a new book about walking.   I think the fellow picked a subject out of hat and started writing though.   The first chapter was good and amusing.  The second chapter started stretching from the subject and it went downhill for me.

One good point he mentioned walking as a form of medication and cited a study saying 3 walks per week at 20 minutes each was better than all the drugs to fight depression.   I think that is true.

Also we have been seeing more people out walking and I like that.  It seems the beginning of becoming more connected.  In a good way.

Till next time,

Keep walkin,

Ron
